Hitachi Elevator Asia (HEA), in collaboration with the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), took part in the “SG60: Keeping Our Kampung Spirit Alive” event at Chestnut Close Park. The initiative celebrated Singapore’s 60 years of nation-building and the enduring kampung spirit that continues to unite communities across the island.
From evening to night, the park was filled with families, residents, and community leaders enjoying activities that celebrated togetherness while learning more about elevator and escalator safety. The event reminded everyone that safety is a shared responsibility, one that begins with awareness and care for the people around us.
Through engaging safety video screenings, interactive Q&A sessions, and fun activities, HEA shared useful knowledge on the safe and proper use of lifts and escalators. Residents were eager to participate and took home small gifts as a reminder of the day’s lessons, making the experience both enjoyable and meaningful.
HEA’s management team, James Lee, Siew Yat Hung and Ron Chua, attended the event to show their support for the community initiative. The event was also graced by Members of Parliament Mr. Liang Eng Hwa and Mr. Vivian Balakrishnan, whose presence underscored the importance of collaboration between the public, government, and private sectors in creating a safer, more caring society.
The “kampung spirit” has always represented neighbourliness, mutual support, and unity, values that remain vital even in today’s modern, high-rise environment. With Singapore’s skyline defined by vertical living, lift and escalator safety plays an essential role in daily life. By sharing practical knowledge and promoting mindful habits, HEA hopes to encourage everyone to look out for one another, ensuring that safety and care continue to thrive in every community.
HEA remains committed to promoting safety awareness and strengthening community ties through education and outreach. More initiatives in partnership with BCA and other organisations are planned, extending efforts to reach even more residents across Singapore.
At Hitachi, we ask what’s next so we can create it. Guided by our mission to Inspire the next, we believe that every action taken today helps shape a better, safer, and more caring tomorrow. Together with our communities, we will continue to inspire the next generation of awareness, responsibility, and connection that keeps Singapore’s kampung spirit alive.
