Shaping Thailand’s Sustainable Future Through Technology and Collaboration

Since the 1930s, Hitachi has partnered with customers and communities across Thailand, supporting the country’s development through mobility, energy, industry and digital innovation. Hitachi has deep roots in the transportation sector, having supplied the first locomotive to Thailand in 1936.

“Hitachi is honoured to play a part in Thailand’s progress,” said Taisuke Ikeda, Managing Director of Hitachi Asia Thailand.

Advancing Mobility in Thailand

Hitachi delivered the Bangkok Red Line, a key rail system that transports around 200,000 passengers daily and helps ease congestion in the city.

Hitachi is also supplying two key systems to support the Bangkok Red Line. The first system is the European Train Control System, which significantly improved its operational efficiency, safety, and capacity. The second system is its power source. The Bangkok Red Line is powered by a compact Hitachi Energy gas-insulated grid connection, which feeds electricity from the national power grid at a stable voltage throughout the line.

Accelerating Thailand’s Digital Transformation

Beyond the Red Line, Hitachi is also working closely to digitalise the energy sector, as the country looks to increase renewable generation, expand electric mobility and build a more intelligent power system. One of Hitachi’s notable projects was to develop the country’s largest private microgrid at the Saha Industrial Park in Sriracha.

In the digital sector, Hitachi is helping manufacturers with Lumada, a digital solution using AI, machine learning and data analytics. The solution helps optimise planning, maintenance and inventory management through AI, machine learning and data-driven insights.

Most recently, Hitachi has contributed its digital and operational technology expertise to One Bangkok, supporting the development of connected and sustainable urban environment.

Standing over 1.8 million square metres of space, One Bangkok is a fully integrated smart living district. The project includes a variety of spaces such as offices, retail, hospitality, residential, hotel, and cultural areas, intended to serve more than 100,000 people daily who will live, work, and visit there.

One Bangkok has over 250,000 IoT sensors working behind the scenes. They enable a host of smart services from managing energy and water to enhancing security and traffic.

“One Bangkok is one of the largest, most ambitious real estate developments in Southeast Asia, which is set to reshape how people live and work in the heart of Bangkok,” said Kojin Nakakita, Chairman of Hitachi Asia Ltd.

Awarded the LEED Platinum certification, One Bangkok is Thailand's largest project to earn this prestigious green building distinction. One of its sustainability features is the centralised district cooling system, which saves 17,000 megawatt-hours of energy a year.

Collaborating with Our Partners for a Better Future

These achievements would not have been possible without the strong partnership network of customers, partners and stakeholders across Thailand. Hitachi firmly believes in working together to deliver a better, more sustainable future for everyone in Thailand.

As a reaffirmation of Hitachi’s commitment to its partners, Kojin Nakakita shares,

“Every milestone was achieved together, showing the strength of our collaboration and the most rewarding moments come from seeing the positive impact our work has on the people of Bangkok and the environment.”

One Bangkok is one example of how digital technology and operational expertise can come together to address real-world challenges. Guided by our pioneering spirit, Hitachi continues to work with partners to explore new possibilities and help shape what’s next for Thailand.

For example, Hitachi Energy is investing 455 million Thai baht to expand its transformers factory in Samutprakarn. This will increase production capacity by 60 percent and enable faster delivery time to support the urgent demand for mission-critical grid equipment.

Hitachi is also making metro travel more convenient in Bangkok, by modernising legacy systems and enabling seamless payment across multiple lines. For the 53 stations of Blue Line and Purple Line, Hitachi has deployed an open loop EMV solution, so passengers can tap in with contactless bank cards, removing the need for cash or physical top-ups.

Hitachi is advancing innovation across Southeast Asia, helping create a future where sustainability, economic growth and people’s well-being can progress together.

Together with customers and partners, we are shaping what’s next.
