Hitachi Announces the Signing of Memorandum of Understanding to
contribute to energy security with Lithuanian Energy Company

Tokyo, October 21st, 2013 --- Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE:6501) today announced the signing of memorandum of understanding with Lithuanian energy company, Lietuvos Energija, UAB (Lietuvos Energija group), which lays down the framework to seek and concretize potential cooperation formats in specific innovative non-nuclear energy technologies fields. This memorandum of understanding has no financial obligations for the parties.

"Lietuvos Energija" group and Hitachi, Ltd are going to seek possibilities to cooperate in effective generation of heat and electricity, buildings' energy management systems, smart grid and smart city technology, electrical cars and its infrastructure and in other innovative energy technologies fields.

Speaking about the agreement, Dalius Misiūnas, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Lietuvos Energija group, said that "It is a possibility to familiarize with "Hitachi" know-how, their experience in development of cutting-edge technologies and discuss how it could be deployed in the Lithuanian energy sector." said Dr. Dalius Misiūnas, Chairman of the Board and CEO of "Lietuvos Energija" group.

Hitachi is accelerating the global expansion of its Social Innovation Business, and has identified Central and Eastern Europe, including Lithuania, as a key region where it is seeking to expand its operations further. Hitachi Europe opened an office in Lithuania in April 2012 and has already been investigating a wide range of potential business opportunities in Baltic countries.
