Zurich, September 21, 2021 - A consortium comprising Hitachi ABB Power Grids and Elsewedy Electric T&D, a subsidiary of Elsewedy Electric has been appointed by state-owned Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to establish the new Delta Zone Regional Control Centre (DRCC). The goal of the DRCC, located at Mansoura City in the Delta region, North Egypt, is to improve the reliability and efficiency of the electricity network in the region and contribute to country's economic development and sustainability goals.

Hitachi ABB Power Grids will provide EETC with its Network Manager supervisory control and energy management system with an advanced interface and a user experience that provides enhanced situational awareness. The transfer of real time data from the connected substations to the control center is enabled by the dedicated state-of-the-art fiber optic telecommunication foundation based on Hitachi ABB Power Grids' industry-leading FOX615 hybrid communication system.

The new system will enable the monitoring, control and optimization of the power transmission grid, leading to increased resilience, safety and efficiency of the energy supply for more than 26 million people. The solution will enable EETC to effectively control and supervise the power transmission network, including the monitoring of power generation facilities in the Delta Zone. The project is expected to be completed in 24 months.

Dr. Mohamed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy for Egypt commented, "The Delta Zone is significant to the country's growth and development, and a stable and resilient electricity infrastructure is vital to support that growth."

Sabah Mashaly, Chairman, EETC added, "Hitachi ABB Power Grids is contributing a seamlessly integrated solution and their expertise will enable innovative operating models for EETC's future projects."

"With our industry-leading solutions, we will deliver to EETC the advanced technology platform needed for the Delta Zone's future-ready electricity network," said Massimo Danieli, Executive Vice President, Grid Automation, Hitachi ABB Power Grids. "We are proud to support Egypt's growth plans with our extensive project experience in the region delivering large mission-critical software and communication network solutions," he added.

"Hitachi ABB Power Grids has been our trusted partner in several successful projects," said Medhat Maher, CEO at Elsewedy Electric T&D. He continued, "Together, we are delivering a comprehensive technical solution that addresses the project requirements underpinned by a well-articulated project execution plan and a robust project organization".
