Tokyo, July 2, 2025 - Hitachi High-Tech Corporation ("Hitachi High-Tech"), today announced that Hitachi High-Tech has received an order from Tokyo Metropolitan Hospital Organization ("Hospital Organization") for a proton therapy system to be installed at Tokyo Metropolitan Cancer and Infectious Diseases Center Komagome Hospital ("Komagome Hospital"). The contract was signed on June 30, 2025. The new facility will feature a compact layout, including one accelerator system and two rotating gantry treatment rooms.
Adopting a comprehensive approach to contracting the facility design and construction, construction supervision, as well as procurement and installation of the proton therapy system, the Hospital Organization selected a project consortium consisting of Takenaka Corporation as the lead company, with Hitachi High-Tech and Yokogawa Architects & Engineers Inc. implementing the project. Within this consortium, Hitachi High-Tech is responsible for procurement and installation of the proton therapy system.
Komagome Hospital is a "Prefectural Cancer Center designated by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare", and plays a central role in elevating cancer treatment standards and healthcare delivery in the Tokyo Metropolis. The new proton therapy facility is scheduled to begin operations in fiscal year 2030.
As a global leader in particle therapy systems, Hitachi High-Tech provides cutting-edge, value-added products and services including proton therapy systems, heavy ion therapy systems, and combined proton/carbon hybrid systems to leading hospitals around the world. With over 120,000 patients*1 treated to date, Hitachi High-Tech systems and services have achieved an excellent record of reliability.
Particle therapy is a type of radiation cancer treatment without the need for surgical removal of the tumorous area, resulting in relatively low physical burden. The number of cancer patients is increasing, and there is growing demand for particle therapy that minimizes physical strain.
Hitachi High-Tech will continue contributing to "create a society without fear of cancer" by offering minimally invasive and cost-effective particle therapy tailored to each patient, and aims to contribute to improving and maintaining patients' Quality of Life (QoL) and advancing cancer treatment.

Overview of Particle Therapy
Particle Therapy is an advanced type of cancer radiotherapy. Protons extracted from hydrogen atoms, or carbon ions are accelerated up to 70% of the speed of light. This energy is concentrated directly on the tumor while minimizing radiation dose to surrounding healthy tissue. Proton therapy uses hydrogen atoms, while heavy ion therapy uses carbon ions. Particle therapy improves the quality of life for cancer patients since the patient experiences no pain during treatment and the procedure has very few side effects compared to that of traditional radiotherapy. In most cases, patients can continue with their normal daily activities while undergoing treatment.
