Sustainability
For over 100 years, Hitachi has been actively solving the challenges facing society, led by our founding mission to “contribute to society through the development of superior, original technology and products.”
Key Targets
Our Commitment to a Sustainable Future
A vision for sustainability is meaningless without action
With the three strategic pillars of Decarbonization, Circular Economy, and Nature Positive forming our environmental vision, Hitachi is turning commitments into real, measurable impact on the path to our 2050 goals. Watch the video to learn more about our progress.
Our Impact in Europe
Hitachi is taking action to reduce our environmental impact. Today, 28 sites across Europe operate using 100% renewable electricity, with a further three sites having achieved carbon neutrality. These milestones reflect our sustained commitment to lower carbon operations and sustainable business practices.
But our ambition goes beyond our own footprint. Working in close partnership with governments, cities, and customers, we apply our expertise in digital innovation, energy, mobility, and infrastructure to accelerate the transition to net zero.
Below are just two examples of how our technologies are reducing emissions, improving efficiency, and building resilience for the future.
Powering a Sustainable Energy Future
Transitioning to clean energy requires the development of infrastructure that can harness the power of renewable sources such as solar, water, and wind. In the UK, ScottishPower Renewables’ wind farms generate enough electricity to power around 950,000 homes every year.
Hitachi Energy is helping to connect this renewable energy to the national grid, delivering solutions that supply stable and reliable electricity, even when wind levels fluctuate. With the capacity to deliver up to 960 megawatts of renewable power to the UK grid, Hitachi Energy is supporting a more resilient energy system and driving the UK towards net zero.
Protecting Marine Life while Powering Renewable Energy
While developing renewable energy infrastructure, we must consider its impact on the environment and protect natural ecosystems. Offshore wind farms can create high levels of underwater noise, which can disrupt marine animals that rely on sound for communication and navigation.
Hitachi Global Air Power provides air end solutions as well as oil-free, energy efficient compressors that enable the deployment of bubble curtain technology. This cuts underwear noise from offshore wind farm development by up to 90%, allowing renewable energy production to coexist harmoniously with marine protection.
