Policy Advocacy and Standardization Activities on Climate Change

Hitachi takes the position that, with regard to policies, regulations, and international frameworks in environmental fields including climate change, it is essential to design systems that are both effective and feasible. Based on this perspective, Hitachi actively participates in policy advocacy initiatives and global frameworks.

Hitachi has long been actively involved in the development of standards in the environmental field, particularly through Technical Committee 111 (TC 111) of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which is responsible for environmental standardization, including Eco-Design. Through these activities, Hitachi contributed to the development of the international standard IEC 63372 (published in January 2026), which establishes a framework for the quantitative evaluation of carbon footprints, greenhouse gas emission reductions, and avoided emissions. In addition, Hitachi participates in discussions at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) on the development of guidance for avoided emissions, and has been featured as a case study.

In Japan, Hitachi engages in policy advocacy related to decarbonization measures, such as emissions trading schemes and the Asian Zero Emission Community (AZEC) initiative promoted by the Japanese government, through Keidanren (Japan Business Federation). At the same time, through initiatives such as the TCFD Consortium, Hitachi proactively communicates its views on effective climate-related disclosures, emphasizing dialogue between information providers and information users.
