March 12, 2022

  • Human Development

The Kurata Grants is the research fund proposed by and established with a donation from the second President of Hitachi, Ltd., the late Chikara Kurata, in 1967 to contribute to the development of science and technology in Japan.

We support researchers who are capable of solving global social issues providing grants to four fields: Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Area (Energy and the Environment, Urban Development and Transportation, and Healthcare) and Humanities and Social Sciences Research Area related to highly technological societies.

In FY 2021, we received 242 applications from universities and research institutes across Japan, and after a rigorous selection process by the selection committee, we decided to grant the fund to 49 researchers.

Many proposals in FY 2021 addressed urgent issues such as energy and food problems, safety and security in urban transportation, etc. All of them have high academic standard and social significance and are expected to contribute to the realization of a sustainable future society.

On March 1, 2022, a list of the 49 recipients' research themes was published on The Hitachi Global Foundation's website. Please visit our website and check it out.
