Excavators dig up earth and pack it into dump trucks. We believe that it is vital to ensure that these machines are as environmentally friendly as possible. The ZAXIS-3 Series of Excavators make the most of concepts and technology that have been created with the Earth in mind.

Excavators are unimaginably strong creatures. The secret of the strength is the hydraulic cylinders, which is the driving force of digging the soil or carrying heavy loads.
Each working components, the arms, the booms and the buckets, are moved by the expanding or contracting of the cylinder from the oil pressure in the internal pumps. In doing so, applying about 350kg of pressure causes the cylinder to move with a pressure of an unbelievable 15 tons.
Excavators thus operate on this mechanism where a small amount of power becomes a great force.

The key facet of the environmental performance of Excavators is the extent to which they can do the most work for the least amount of fuel used. Hence striving to gain further efficiency for hydraulic systems and engines was an important issue.
To ensure a greater volume of work can be achieved, we developed a '
new-style hydraulic system' that allows effective control of hydraulic pressure to avoid waste. In addition, to ensure that the engine runs smoothly, we developed the new '
OHC4 Valve Engine', which features improved engine operation, torque and fuel systems.
The combined effect of these two developments have been greatly accelerate the speed of work, increasing the amount of work achieved by 12% while reducing the amount of fuel used by 13%.

![[Image] Improved environmental functions -Driver seat noise level of 65dBRecycling rate of 97%](/environment/showcase/solution/industrial/images/img_excavator/ex_06.jpg)
Improvements in engine rigidity, alterations to the shape of the cooling fan and the development of a noise muffler have reduced the noise level of the ZX200-3 to 65dB in the driver' s seat.
Components such as the radiator, oil cooler and air condenser have been constructed using easily recyclable aluminum, with the machine as a whole having 97% recyclability.
These efforts resulted in the winning of the President' s Award of the Japan Machinery Federation in FY2007. The ZAXIS-3 also took top place out of ten different companies in a performance appraisal test made by an authoritative Dutch specialist magazine.
