Ranging from environmentally-conscious data centers based on leading-edge Green IT technologies to the hard disk drives that are and essential part of various IT systems

Hitachi has been promoting a data center power saving project for creating IT equipment with low power consumption as well as reducing power consumption by optimizing the energy efficiency of the entire data center including air-conditioning and power supply facilities. The goal is to reduce power consumption in data centers by up to 50% in FY2012 compared with FY2007 by mobilizing all the available resources of Hitachi. Hard disk drives are essential for information storage in IT equipment including personal computers and storage devices as well as in digital consumer electronics such as flat-screen TVs. Hitachi’s efforts in this area include improving the recording density through the use of technologies such as perpendicular magnetic recording and further reducing power and resource consumption in response to increasing information volume and environmental consciousness.
